Work and Life Balance Struggle

Posted by Kubasama - June 20th, 2024

It's incredibly difficult to manage my time doing what I love after a tiring day of work. It's as though my dread of doing work has bled into my private life. How do you build the motivation to draw if you're tired from other obligations? Much love.iu_1224620_22651416.png

I know. It's difficult to manage every side of your life; it's tiring as well.

Maybe setting a goal to try a completely new thing to draw as an exercise for like 20 min at the end of the day or before you start on a normal piece? Something to look forward to as the day goes on, thinking about it while you get to the end of the day. Doesn't ever have to be finished or shown to anyone.

Draw in a different style for it, idk maybe something with heavy contrast that comic books like The MAXX or the Hellboy comics have. Or different medium instead of digital. Anything to make you think about how to approach it and wanna learn. To me, at least, thats where motivation comes from for anything in life, art or not. I think art is becoming just another obligation, maybe? And thats why the dread is creeping in, even if you love doing it. Just gotta make it fun again, I think the monotony is creeping in!

Hopefully this whole thing wasn't rhetorical and im not being an absolutely massive fucking DORK

This is some incredibly helpful feedback. I do want to have fun drawing, so I'll try something new and maybe pick up some new mediums from the store later. Thank you!

@Kubasama Good!! I hope it does something, just as long as it pushes you in the right direction. Just anything to make you look forward to drawing after a long day instead of some chore to finish up. I hope it helps!! Good luck.
